Born in Chicoutimi in 1963, Denise Brassard settled in Montréal in 1983 and began studies in literature. After earning an undergraduate degree and Master’s degree at the Université de Montréal, she obtained a PhD at McGill University. While studying, she worked as a journalist and literary columnist for periodicals and radio programs. From 1996 to 2004, she was co-director then director of the creative writing journal Exit. She remains associated with the journal as an editorial board member. Since 2003, she has been a professor in the literary studies department of the Université du Québec à Montréal. She has published three books of poetry and contributed essays, short stories, drama pieces and poems to various collectives and periodicals, both in Quebec and internationally.
