Born in Sept-Îles and a graduate of UQAM’s “cultural activities and research” program, Simon Gauthier has been a professional storyteller since 1998. One fall evening while he was still a student, some friends invited him to a show by storyteller Michel Faubert… it was a revelation! Spurred by his new passion, Simon impetuously set off on a first tour that would take him from Quebec City to Natashquan, village to village, like a troubadour. In the summer of 1997, Simon gave 42 shows, including 6 in Tadoussac at the Café du Fjord. The following summer, Simon returned to Tadoussac and performed the show Lampe-tempête some 40 times. Then came the show Corne de brume and, in 2002, once again in Tadoussac, it was Simon Gauthier vous monte un bateau. After spending two summers in Tadoussac, Simon wanted to introduce audiences in the region to other storytellers. That is how, in April 2000, the festival Conteurs en rafales was born. Simon Gauthier is a top storyteller known for his talents as an actor, singer and musician. With his warm, confident voice, he sprinkles his stories with songs, accompanying himself on guitar or musical saw (handsaw played with a bow).
