Born in Montréal to a Texan father and a mother from Southern France, bilingual singer-songwriter Thomas Hellman won the Felix-Leclerc award in 2007. His music is influenced as much by the French “chanson” tradition as by American folk roots music. His French album L’appartement received critical acclaim in both Quebec and France. In spring 2007, Hellman released Departure songs, a compilation of his early songs, recorded in McGill University studios, while he was working on his Master’s degree on Irish writer Samuel Beckett. Thomas Hellman is currently working on his next album to be released in the fall of 2008.
