Who is Mado? A famous figure of Montréal nightlife, Mado is somewhere between a drag queen and a clown. For the last 20 years, she has been organizing and hosting the wildest events in the gay bars in Montréal. The queen of kitsch and of parody, she has made herself known to the Quebec public with her appearances on TV, her columns in the monthly magazine Fugues and the weekly ICI Montréal, not to mention her illustrious Bingo à Mado events at the Montréal Spectrum, the Casino de Montréal and the Just for Laughs festival. Her two most important accomplishments to date are: Mascara — la nuit des drags that she has organized, coordinated and hosted for the past 10 years and presented for over 25,000 people during Pride Week; and Cabaret Mado which she launched in May 2002 and which continues to draw crowds from home and from elsewhere. Exuberant, provocative and extravagant, Mado Lamotte is a colourful character right out of an adult comic book. Inspired by Michel Tremblay and raised on Fanfreluche, Mado Lamotte is without a doubt the most fabulous eccentric in Quebec: the biggest star of the new millenium!
