Anishnabe / French interdisciplinary artist Emilie Monnet founded Onishka to herald performance-based work that is created from unique collaborations between indigenous artists worldwide. Weaving the symbolic realm of dreams and ancestry with innovative ways of telling stories, her work looks at challenging audiences in their perceptions of Indigenous struggles and hopes to inspire transformation. Recompose is the third piece she directs with the company after Bird Messengers and Songs of Mourning, Songs of Life. She journeys regularly to Colombia to collaborate with artists over there but has been calling Montréal home for the last few years.
