Formed in 2006, -O- emerged from a shared drum and bass project with the purpose of making minimalist techno and organic noise music. Following the addition of a turntablist/electronicist, -O- recorded its debut album in 2007 and 2009 saw the release of its second record panpapal. In addition to having a residence at CKUT radio station, -O- has performed at, among other venues, Casa del Popolo, Le Cheval Blanc, and Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) as well as in various lofts. -O-’s live performances constitute a mix of techno, krautrock, noise elements and a constant cross between analog and digital reproductions. Krautrock was a musical movement originating in Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the rise of bands such as Can, Neu and Faust. Their music was characterized by organic, rock, repetitive, hypnotic and psychedelic influences. Other bands such as Kraftwerk have popularized this genre all the way up to the 2000s by taking on a less organic sound, which paved the way for minimalist techno.
