Born in Santiago, Chile, Mariana Taulis has lived in Montréal since 1975. While in Chile, she performed Latin American songs as a vocalist and studied classical guitar at the National Music Conservatory and the Faculty of Music at the University of Chile in Santiago. She left Chile in October 1973 following the coup d’état, going into exile in Peru, England, then France before settling in Montréal. Between 1973 and 1990, she used song to show solidarity with her homeland, participating in various solidarity evenings and concerts. In 1976, she recorded an album entitled Chili, le printemps renaîtra and in 1998, a second album, Lo unico que tengo.
