Poet, short story writer and novelist Élise Turcotte has published several poetry collections including La voix de Carla (VLB, 1987 Emilie-Nelligan prize), Sombre Ménagerie (Editions du Noroî, Grand Prix du festival international de la poésie 2002, prix de poésie Terrasses Saint-Sulpice de la revue Estuaire 2002) and Piano Mélancolique (Editions du Noroît, 2005) She has also published her short stories in a volume called, Caravane. (Leméac, 1994) Her longer works include three novels: The Sound of Living Things, (Le bruit des choses vivantes Leméac, Prix Louis-Hémon, 1991), The Body’s Place (L’île de la Merci, Leméac, 1997) and The Alien House. (La maison étrangère, Leméac, 2002) She has also published several books for children. Her work has been published into English, Catalan and Spanish. In 2003, she won the Governor General’s Award for La maison étrangère. Her short story collection, Pourquoi faire une maison avec ses morts, published with Leméac in the fall of 2007, was nominated for the Collegiate Literary Prize. This year, Elise is working in partnership with Daniel Sylvestre of la Courte Echelle, to publish, Derrière le rideau de la folie. Additionally, her poetry collection, Ce qu’elle voit, will soon be published by Noroit.
