Plush, is an interactive kinetic soft sculpture and a magical roving participatory performance. It is an animated costume created out of countless small bright pastel stuffed animals, in which Coral Short roams, arms outstretched, doling out soft cushy hugs to intrigued audiences. This new experiential work attempts to disrupt daily life with playful intervention. Short enjoys creating art that casts ephemeral spells on their audiences. This joyous piece touches on furry culture and toy sculptural drag, but also reminds us of our childhood innocence and our strong emotional attachment to our own special stuffed animal. Coral is interested in questioning the comfortable trappings of North American consumerist culture with this mascot-like work. This winter Plush was created during a residency at L’Entreprise Culturelle in Paris, France.
