One day, future archaeologists will discover traces of our contemporary world. Vestiges of the way in which we occupy space will provide clues as to how we once lived.

Lieux dits is a pataphysics project (the science of imaginary solutions) that offers an absurdist look at the complex relationship between people and places. A performance in search of innovative alternatives to creative theatre in public spaces.

Lieux dits is a new creation by Jean-Frédéric Messier, prolific author, director, and composer who has spent the past several decades working on Montréal stages and beyond. In 2017, Jean-Frédéric published L’Espace plein (L’instant scène), an essay on the art of in situ theatre, a style he has practiced for many years with his company, Momentum. Lieux dits is a creation inspired by his theoretical research on theatre productions outside of a classic stage setting. Using a homemade scenic device, Messier offers an innovative approach to performance theatre in public spaces.
