The Constant Bride

Text, direction, and performance: D. Kimm. Lighting: Lucie Bazzo. Sound design: Guido Del Fabbro. Projections: Brigitte Henry & Nathalie Bujold.

A playful and poetic show with projections, giant brides, disturbing dolls and luminous cages. Love stories, rumba… and welding. Though she is wearing a gown fit for a princess, this bride is anything but overjoyed! She’s a roaming sort, someone who’s never in her place; awkward in her way but ever so endearing.

A bride, adorned in a beautiful white gown, only finds her legitimacy when she marries. Failing that, she is “out of place.” When we see a bride who is not at a wedding, we wonder: Did she run off; or was she abandoned?

In this intimist show, which takes on various forms according to the presentation contexts, D. Kimm moves seamlessly between poetry and funny little stories. Filled with nostalgia for bygone rituals, the show is also a reflection on love today and even a call to passion… a lesson on the traps of love! The result is a magical and stunningly beautiful performance that is both funny and moving… and for all audiences.

This one hour show can be booked for touring in a French or English version. It can be shown in theatres of various capacities and is suitable for every type of audience.

A work in progress version of The Constant Bride was presented in May 2009 at the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui as part of the OFFTA. It is in November 2001 that the show truly came into its own during a tour of the Maisons de la culture (Conseil des arts de Montréal touring program). A showcase version was presented in English at the Banff Centre in February 2011 as part of the BanffLiterary In (ter) ventions. The Constant Bride will be touring the north of Spain in March 2012 as part of the Francophonie month (see the schedule).

Les Filles électriques wishes to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Le Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Bureau du Québec in Barcelona for their support of the various production and presentation stages of The Constant Bride.
