Cynthia Girard

Cynthia Girard is a poet as well as a visual artist. She was born in Laval (Quebec) in 1969. She has published several collections of poems, namely Une Mort désamorcée (at Écrits des forges 1995), Nous lirons du bout des yeux (at Écrits des forges, 1996) and Le soleil et l’électron (at Triptyque, 2004). She has produced several exhibitions questioning the narrative or accounting literary forms, national identity and the imaginary world. In the course of her last exhibitions she has, for instance, given poetic performances while wearing a cobra costume or an Egyptian goddess or even a white insect, thus combining poetry and visual arts. She has participated in numerous solo exhibitions here in Montreal and abroad, among others Fictions sylvestres at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Locked Up (at SPACE, London in 2006, Tous les oiseaux sont ici and at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin 2009. Her artwork is both polyphonic and gigantic. It comprehends all points of view in order to create a whole collage effect.
