Laszlo Kolozsy

The Kolozsy Circus Family arrived in Montreal in 1959 from Malmo Sweden where we had lived for the past few years after escaping to the West during the Hungarian revolution… My brother was born in Montreal, and my memories of life there include skiing on Mont Royal, attending school at St. Kevins, and performing at the Shriners Circus… My parents performed several acts at Montreal nightclubs where they were very popular with audiences. They performed in a specially designed trampoline for small venues, and also a magic, illusion, and mentalism act…

During the summers we travelled the fair circuit across Canada from the Big Brome Fair all the way to the PNE in Vancouver via the Calgary Stampede, Regina, and the CNE in Toronto, where we were approached to perform at the World’s Fair in Seattle… This was my debut as a performer, an acrobatic flyer in a Circus show… Now in the USA, we travelled with dozens of circuses and started our own family circus… In my travels I have met many strange people in the sideshow and became friends with Giants, Midgets, Fat Ladies, and Siamese Twins… I have always been fascinated by the performances of the traditional sideshow acts such as the Hindu Mystic who eats razor blades and rests on a bed of nails… The indestructible girl, a lovely young lady who climbs a ladder of sharp swords… Miss Twisto who is able to turn her head in a full and complete 360 degree circle… Madame Voltara’s shocking performance, and many other strange and curious acts which are now experiencing a renaissance in popularity… Following a lifetime spent in the circus arts, I now teach young people the disciplines and secrets of the strange and mysterious world of the circus and sideshow…
