Hélène Matte

Hélène Matte could be called a poet with a background in the visual arts or a visual artist who writes. Her interdisciplinary practice leads her to be particularly interested in poetry and drawing as acts of presence. She treats words like raw material and creates images from gestures. She has many exhibitions and performances in Quebec and Europe to her name and has published articles in the magazines Inter, Bazzart and Espace. Creator of the CD-event Chansons dégoulinantes et poèmes acculés au pied du mur and of the show Voyage Voyage (Prix VIDERE for a visual arts event), Hélène Matte is a PhD candidate in literature and the performing arts at Université Laval. Her DVD-book, Lever du jour sur Kinshasa, was published by Planète Rebelle.
