10th Festival Voix d’Amériques, March 11-18, 2011
For the last 10 years, the Festival Voix d’Amériques, orchestrated by D. Kimm and Les Filles Électriques, has been taking chances with emerging voices and astonishing ideas. For its 10th anniversary, the Company has clearly lost it, inviting everyone to join the party at the mind-boggling ticket price of $10 (tax included) for ALL Mainstage Shows. That includes the FVA’s beloved “Combat contre la langue de bois”! And our returning series “Band + Poetry 5 à 7” and “Night Shift” are still free!
The FVA is the place for poetry-in-performance and interdisciplinarity. It’s also a window onto risk-taking, poetic daring and innovation. At the FVA, the audience knows to expect surprises and expects to hear authentic voices! For its 10th birthday, the FVA welcomes two Guests of Honour: Melissa Auf der Maur and Michel Faubert in FVA-exclusives. They’ll be joined by performers from Montreal, New York and France for some one-of-a-kind evenings! More good news: our infamous “Combat contre la langue de bois” is back, often imitated, never equalled! To celebrate the 7th round of this extraordinary event, the FVA is organizing a mega-combat in a mega-venue — La Tulipe. Finally, everyone who wants to get in will be able to! Your host for the evening will be the ever stylish Stéphane Crête. We promise you’ll make real headway against the mealy-mouthed and the insignificant in public discourse.
Our free regular series meanwhile, devoted to up-and-coming artists, look more promising than ever. “Band + Poetry 5 à 7” is moving to the Divan Orange for exuberant encounters between words and music and the brightest young talent around. The “Night Shift” series stays at the good old Casa del Popolo for those end-of-evening, bad-boy-bad-girl shows, featuring either music or a performance starting at 10 pm with the Open Mic at 11. The “Night Shift” is where discoveries are made and folks go too far, hosted by the extravagant Pascal-Angelo Fioramore and accompanied by the unbelievable music of Guido Del Fabbro and Philippe Brault.
With two Special Guests, all mainstage shows at $10 and our free regular series, the Festival Voix d’Amériques and Les Filles Électriques will bring down the house, continuing to offer Montreal its dose of free expression and electricity.
